About the Miller Prize Installations
The J. Irwin and Xenia S. Miller Prize Competition honors two great patrons of architecture, art, and design by furthering their mission to make Columbus the best community of its size. Ten finalists participated in the 2016 symposium and presented proposals for temporary installations that respond to iconic sites on Fifth Street. Five prize-winning designs were selected by the jury to transform the cityscape and spark new conversations about Columbus’ design heritage during the exhibition.

About the Washington Street Installations
For the 2017 exhibition Exhibit Columbus worked with five leading international design galleries to create innovative installations along Washington Street – Columbus’ “main street.” Each of the five galleries selected one designer from its stable, and each designer was challenged to create an object or experience that enhances human interaction and connection and that inspires community conversations about the role of design in daily life.

About the High School Installation
Six students from Columbus high schools have been working with architecture and design professionals selected by Indiana University Center for Art + Design (IUCA+D) to create the installation Between the Threads at the Historic Post Office. For an entire year the Exhibit Columbus High School Design Team immersed themselves in the roles of architect and designer. They have met with professionals, worked with local fabricators, and engaged community volunteers to help them build their installation.

Installation
Rick Valicenti of Thirst was commissioned to design the graphic identity and exhibition wayfinding for Exhibit Columbus. This colorful system is a re-expression of mid-century optimism. The graphic system is also aligned with Paul Rand’s enduring identity for the Columbus Area Visitors Center and Alexander Girard’s color palette for the Miller House and Garden interiors.
